Showing your true self
For a really long time with people around me I've been shying about and not wanting to show them who I really I am. So I show them a perfect version of myself deeply trying to hide all my flaws. I present to them what is acceptable in society and hide any negative or wrong thoughts that I have in fear that this will cause conflict and cause me not to be liked. Now I've started to become more comfortable with people it makes me nervous that they're starting to see my flaws and insecurities because after all, everyone else is completely perfect and stable right?
It's easy to think that way but in reality I think everyone has flaws and thoughts that might not necessarily be acceptable but I really don't think hiding them away in a little box is the answer. Here are a few reasons why:
1. There are a lot of people out there with insecurities and fears - hiding yours away could cause other people to believe that you don't have any insecurities and hence hide their own as well. People then become artificial and issues that they have are left undealt with.
2. Sharing your fears and insecurities lets everyone realise you're human. It can really bring humanity together and then together you can discuss and look to tackle these situations.
3. Generally - you're likely to have closer and more meaningful relationships with people who like and appreciate you for who you truly are rather than who others or society want you to be.
4. Being someone who you are not can be exhausting and unnecessary - and can often result in outburst of emotion and irrational behaviour.
Sometimes, accepting yourself is a long a difficult process. But it is worth it in the end to be a great version of your true self rather than trying to be 'perfect'.
It's taken me a long time to accept myself for who I truly am and even now I go through phases where I really doubt myself and judge myself for being or feeling a certain way. But I have to keep reminding myself that the world would be boring if everyone was exactly the same. I'm not saying you shouldn't ever step out of your comfort zone or try something you usually wouldn't - but stay true to your yourself and take things at your own pace. Don't put pressure on yourself because you aren't a certain way. Do things because you want to do them not because you're trying to impress others or be like them.

We all have our place in this world and we all have our part to play.
