We are all on our own journey

"Life is not a competition. Each one is on their own journey. Live according to your choices, capacity, values and principles."

I got sent the above quote to me the other day and it really resonated with me. This is because I am 23 years old and at a time in my life where people are constantly coming in and out of my life. It was starting to make me feel a bit unsettled because you do get used to stability and having the same people around.

People all seem to be do be doing different things with their lives. Some people are getting married; some people are studying further; some people are buying houses. You do sometimes wonder whether you should follow others on the same path and sometimes lose focus of your own journey and pace. The truth is, everyone is different in what they want from life - just because others are doing certain things, doesn't mean it's the correct next step for you to take too.

There are so many things that I want to do in my life, but because I have been so confused at which is the correct next step to take I have been feeling like a deer caught in headlights.

It got to a point a few months ago where it felt like I had stopped moving forward. It was like I'd taken my foot of the gas pedal and although I wanted to keep going, I had run out of fuel. This meant I needed to take steps to slowly build up my physical and mental capacity. This involved changes in my lifestyle, I had put a lot of pressure on myself in my work for a long time and a need to succeed and prove myself in this area that I had exhausted myself and neglected other areas in my life such as my social life and my health and well-being which are equally important. Through taking a step back and making sure that I had a healthier work-life balance, I have started to feel like I have more energy to move forwards again and a clearer vision of what I want my future to look like and the steps that I need to take to get there.

It's also important to bear in mind that sometimes, despite your efforts, things might not turn out 'exactly' how you expected them to. And, to not get disheartened or disappointed by this but to carry on moving forward and focusing on your journey. Understand that occasionally you may get de-routed a little bit on your path and that's okay.

I think it's really nice that everyone has different visions and dreams of the future and it will be interesting to see where other people end up over the years.

Whilst we shouldn't aim to follow other people's journey, it still great to share ideas and both the good and the bad experiences that you come across in life with others. Through sharing ideas and support each other in our journeys we can ensure that we are all succeeding in our path and ensure that we all become winners.
